Biologicals

Biologicals
Biologicals are a very hot topic on farms today. It might seem that everyone has something that can help you and your crop. At Country Visions we have been using Biologicals for decades, starting with legume inoculants decades ago. Legume inoculants may sound simple today, but it was not always that way. Remember the peat base products on soybeans we tried to get introduced to the field via the seed? It looked like most of the peat was still in the drill. And then you pushed it into the tubes near the end of planting, and wow, the plants grew bigger and stayed alive longer……  Country Visions has actively searched for products that consistently have good returns on investment. Seed treatments, residue reduction, Mycorrhiza, nutrient enablers, stress mediators, and the list goes on. We know not all things work in every environment. Our staff continues to sort through to find useful products for your farm. Products like Trash Breaker, and Envita, have shown for a few years now their ability to make improvements on the farm.

This week I would like to continue with the discussion of plant genetics with a focus on genetic diversity. Genetic diversity refers to the range of different inherited traits within a species. In a species with high genetic diversity, there would be many individuals with a wide variety of different traits. Genetic diversity is crucial for a population to adapt to changing environments such as disease, insects, weather patterns, soil conditions, etc. Genetic diversity is akin to your retirement plan. - By Kevin Mueller, Senior Agronomist, WI CCA of the Year
