Strupp Family Farm

According to Larry Strupp, it’s not about how much you make doing it, happiness is enjoying what you do. Larry and his brother, Mike, along with his wife and son, Terry and Alex, operate Strupp Family Farm in Slinger, WI.

The enjoyment for what they do comes across in a lot of the statements made by Larry when he talks about farming. When Larry was growing up, he enjoyed milking cows on his family’s farm. “The farm was always something I enjoyed with my father and I would love to pass it along to my son,” he said. Realizing, in order to sustain the operation for the next generation, they either had to expand or do something different. Well, they did something different. Now, the Strupp’s operation includes Custom everything (planting/harvesting), Cash Crop, Beef-finishing steers and has involved the 3rd generation of the family. They enjoy the work that goes into the growing of the crops and Larry’s favorite part of his job is combining. “It’s always fun to plant something in spring and see how it turns out in fall,” Larry said.

The Strupp’s have also come up with a unique arrangement that allows them to run modern equipment and stay up with the times, but not incur the full expense. They purchased a self-propelled chopper with a neighboring farm and own a combine and a corn planter with another. It’s neighbors-helping-neighbors in this Washington County community where Larry is on the Parks and Planning Committee. He is also on the ASCS Board for both Washington and Ozaukee Counties. Mike is involved in the Farm Bureau, he is on the Washington County Dairy Promotions Committee and Chairs Breakfast on the Farm for the organization. Their father, Maurice, is the Town Chairman for the Town of Hartford.

Outside of farming, Larry has fun golfing with his wife, Terry, and plays dartball. He is also a big fan of the Brewers and the Packers.

Thank you to Larry and the family at Strupp Farm for being our Farmer Friday. Best wishes for the success of your operation! The agriculture pride you demonstrate and your focus on sustainability for future generations is appreciated!
