Miritz Custom Chopping

“Around here neighbors go out of their way to help neighbors,” commented 4th generation farmer, Joe Miritz. “I am humbled on a regular basis when I see people come together to help someone that is behind or down.” He feels that farmers are eternal optimists, believing that it will get better. “We don’t give up,” he said. “We keep getting out of bed in the morning to do our work even during challenging times.” This is especially true for Joe, who is passionate about farming and has wanted to do it since he knew and understood what it was. “Both Mom and Dad’s family farmed,” he said. “I wanted to do what Dad and Grandpa did. When I drove truck and worked off the farm, my heart was still here.”

Joe operates Miritz Custom Chopping and Cold Springs Farm in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The custom work involves forage harvesting, hay and corn. He has several employees that help with the custom chopping business. The Cold Springs Farm is a cash crop operation that Joe rents from his dad and runs on his own.

Joe likes running the farm machinery and being outside. His hobbies include more of the same and pretty much all relate to agriculture. They enjoy going to farm shows, ag conferences, forage days, tractor pulls and every year they go to Louisville for the farm machinery show/tractor pull. During winter they continue to use their tractors, but instead of harvesting crops, they plow snow for an area landscaping business. They also help out with the Annual Eden FFA Tractor Pull and various charities and events.

Thank you to Joe for reminding us of the image of a little boy following behind their dad or grandpa and looking up at them with admiration. Watching everything they do with amazement. Wondering if their feet will ever be big enough to fill those foot prints. Waiting for the day when they could do what Dad and Grandpa did! Thank you for being our Farmer Friday this week. We wish success to you, your family and your operations!
