Michael Slattery

Michael Slattery and his wife, Nancy, have a farm in Maribel, WI, which is located in Manitowoc County. They raise Holstein steers and cash crop grain and commercial vegetables. Even though you may think that would be enough to keep them busy, they also have chickens, lambs, hogs, an orchard of 50 fruit trees, bee hives, and a large garden.

Michael grew up on a farm in Iowa. Agriculture is important to him because of stewardship of creation. Respect for the land and the life on it, is motivation for their farming practices. “Knowing my wife appreciates what I do,” Michael said is part of the reason he enjoys the farming lifestyle. Working with animals, planning and evaluating production performance, working in the garden and harvesting fruits and vegetables are some of the other joys of his job.

If you ask about hobbies, you will find out that Michael likes to be involved with writing and economic analysis. He uses his research and talents for advocacy and other forms of education.

We wish you continued success, Michael and Nancy, and thank you for participating in Farmer Friday!
