Dulmes Farms LLC

The fall harvest season has always been his favorite time of the year. “That’s when you know it was all worth it,” according to Joel Dulmes. Along with his wife, Linda, Joel operates Dulmes Farms LLC in Gibbsville, WI. 

Sometimes you choose your career path or like in Joel’s case, sometimes it chooses you. “Well I grew up with it and I liked it, so I just kind of stuck with it,” Joel said. “Dad passed away 13 years ago and I just took over what he started.” It would appear that Joel and Linda’s three kids have also acquired a fondness for working in agriculture. Jerrid, Brady and Brooke are the main employees at the farm.

“We all need the farmers,” Joel said, “we need the food their producing.” Dulmes Farms is a Cash Crop operation. Joel jokingly referred to it as a grain farm, saying you can’t call it cash crop any more, because there is no cash. Though he jokes, Joel is committed to maintaining the land, trying to get better yields per acre and growing a safe crop for consumers. On this Sheboygan County farm, they have incorporated some no-till farming into their growing plans and were no-tilling a lot of their beans this year. In addition to the crops, they haul cattle for other farms. The cattle trucking gives Joel another connection with the agriculture community and a wider perspective for his membership in the Farm Bureau organization.

When the work is done, it’s time for Joel to have fun. Snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, and a passion for old John Deere tractors are all hobbies he enjoys.
