Deer Run Dairy

Duane Ducat has been doing "it" all his life. Derek Ducat grew up with "it" and enjoyed "it" as a kid. Dale Bogart moved to Wisconsin from Ohio and discovered a love for "it". What is the “it”? Farming, of course! These three men are the owners of Deer Run Dairy, LLC. This is a Dairy and Crop operation located in Kewaunee County Wisconsin. On the farm is where they continue to find happiness from daily challenges, the freedom of being your own boss, and being able to be involved with cutting edge technology.

Deer Run Dairy is one of the UW Discovery Farms for Kewaunee County encouraging an interest they already had for finding better ways to do things. At Deer Run Dairy they take pride in the fact that you can feed the world and be good stewards of the land. They have been using no-till and a lot of cover crop planting and the owners invested in a digester for their operation. The digester produces byproducts from manure including bedding for cows, less-odorous fertilizer and continuous 500kW of power. Why is agriculture and the advances in farming technology important? Derek’s answer sums it up. “For the future of the kids,” he said.

Derek is on the Wisconsin Custom Operators Board of Directors and Duane is on the Peninsula Pride Farms Board. The three men also have hobbies outside of agriculture. Duane, Derek and Dale all have a fondness for hunting and fishing including Dale’s favorite, prairie dog hunting. It is August in Wisconsin, so like many other Wisconsinites, Derek brought up another favorite interest of his… the Packers!

It was wonderful to hear about the operation and people of Deer Run Dairy. Thank you for being a part of our Farmer Friday story. Best wishes to Derek, Duane, Dale, their families, and the future of their business!
