Century Acres, INC.

“It is much easier to do something you want to do versus what you have to do,” according to David Brunnquell. “That is why it has always been easy for me to be in agriculture.” David and his brother, Mark, are the owners of Century Acres Inc. in the Town of Saukville. David’s son, Joseph, and Bill Opitz operate as Century Acres Growers. They all have their part in the family farming corporation. It is now five generations of the family involved in the agriculture business and with a 4-year old representing the next generation, a 6th may be forthcoming.

The focus for David as Century Acres Inc., is custom grain harvesting, planting and application. They also have a small poultry operation at the farm, raising layer chickens for eggs. They likewise assist the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) at the University of Wisconsin, by using their operation for research when they have a project. The location of their farm gives them unique opportunities, next to the Milwaukee metro and 2 larger dairy farms.

For David, agriculture was the only thing he had ever known. He never really considered anything besides production ag when it came to deciding what he would do with his future. His connection to the cooperative system has also been a constant in his life. In college, he did two internships with the Co-op. Starting from Midland Co-op, to Random Lake, then becoming KLC and now Country Visions he has been building a good relationship.

“There are a lot of things that go into the growing and harvesting of the crops,” David said. “What continues to motivate all of us is seeing what we accomplish as a team.” His ambition for success comes from working with his team and also being able to share their message by explaining the reality of farming, GMO production, or educating people on the importance of clean air, water and food. David is proud to be a farmer and he enjoys when the conversation turns to someone asking about it. He is a Board Member of Clean Farm Families (a locally led watershed group), a member of National Corn Growers, a member of the Worship Team at his church, and has served on 4-H and Municipal Boards in the past.

Camping and antique tractors are on the list of “fun things to do” for this farmer. David enjoys restoring the tractors and the rich history of their family farm. Thank you to David and the rest of the operation for being a part of our Farmer Friday story. In step with our Cooperative’s message, you are taking lessons from history, educating for today and building for the future. We wish you continued success!
