Family. At most farms, no matter how big or small, it’s the family that is the core of its existence. We find that at Phipps Family Farm in the Sheboygan County community of Glenbeulah. Phil and Brenda Phipps farm with Phil’s parents, Walter and Orlene, and Phil and Brenda’s children; Alex, Morgan and Aaron.
“Agriculture instills a work ethic for the kids,” the Phipps said. “We work as a family from picking stones, showing pigs at the fair, to getting the fields ready.” Cash cropping, raising and showing hogs, include a few steers and you have the Phipps Family Farm, but it doesn’t stop there. They have also added a unique aspect to this operation, they produce a considerable amount of maple syrup.
If you ask Phil what he likes about farming, he says he enjoys it all, but his favorite is harvesting the crops at the end of the year. He is proud of what he does when he sees the results of respecting the land that has supported the dreams of 4 generations of the Phipps family.
Outside of agriculture, Phil is a member of the Greenbush Fire Department and he and the kids are highly involved with the activities of the department. The kids are also in FFA, trap, 4-H, basketball and swimming. Brenda enjoys scrapbooking. She is on the Greenbush town board, the Fairest of the Fair Committee and she helps at the schools with FFA or anywhere where she is needed.
Thank you to the Phipps family for being a part of our Farmer Friday series. We enjoy sharing the stories of our members and the importance of agriculture to our communities. Best wishes!
Farmer Friday...post #25. To show our appreciation to our producer members, Country Visions Cooperative will be giving a snapshot look of our customers and their operations in this feature each Friday.
