Greendale Dairy, LLC is located in southwest Manitowoc County in the rural Kiel area. Nic Schoenberger and Mike Schuler handle the operations of this 6th generation dairy farm. An awareness about feeding the world and a curiosity about the whole aspect of agriculture was something these two had in common. “It’s our interest, our passion and our lively hood. Farming is what we do.” Nic said. “The benefit of having your family involved and your children growing up within it, is why we continue to do it.”
This week, 28-year-old, Lisa (pictured with Nic), arrived from New Zealand. She came over through an exchange program called Global Cow. Lisa will be here for 2 months closely observing Greendale Dairy’s practices to learn about how dairy operations are managed in the USA compared to at home. Greendale Dairy hosts a lot of international tours throughout the year. This was especially true during World Dairy Expo. Nic said at one time during a tour they had conversations in about 13 different languages taking place!
They put their primary focus on the dairy herd itself at Greendale Dairy. The cows are Nic’s favorite part of farming. He has enjoyed seeing the growth within the last 14 years from where they were to where they are now. When Nic and Mike took over ownership of the operation they really started to expand the dairy herd and concentrate on the quality of their production.
The owners of this farm are not afraid to get involved in their community. Nic is Vice President of WAEC, on the Board of Directors for Land O’ Lakes and coaches a Miracle League. His wife, Christine, is a coach for youth sports, primarily basketball. Mike is on the Forage Council Board. Nic is also a very avid hunter. His favorite is white tail bow hunting.
Thank you to Nic and Greendale Dairy for being customers of Country Visions Cooperative. We appreciate what you do to support the agriculture industry and the education surrounding it. Best wishes for your continued success!
Farmer Friday...post #28. To show our appreciation to our producer members, Country Visions Cooperative will be giving a snapshot look of our customers and their operations in this feature each Friday.
