Fair Project Friday

Carly Meinert is excited for her 5th year of showing poultry at the Fond du Lac County Fair. She will compete in the Chicken, Meat Chicken and Duck classes as part of the Taft 23 4-H Club of Fond du Lac County. Carly joined the 4-H Club 12 years ago wanting to do some of the same fun activities her sisters were doing as part of the Club.

Carly’s fixation for chickens started with her grandparents who helped her get familiar with them. “I enjoy the chickens the most,” she said. “They are my favorite animals.” She has learned over the years from doing projects to be more responsible and not to do things last minute. She raises Wyandottes and Orpingtons to show at the fair. “They have to be fed twice a day," she said. "I keep up with grooming them to keep them healthy and wash them before the show." She thinks it’s fun working with her birds and finding out which ones will be good show projects.

You can see Carly showing her projects on Friday and then at the market sale on Saturday during the Fond Du Lac County Fair. You might also spot her on the fairgrounds enjoying some deep-fried Oreos or other fantastic fair food. Good luck with your projects, Carly!
