Clay Valley Dairy

At Clay Valley Dairy Farm in Mishicot, Wisconsin, every member of the family pitches in to get the work done. As the 3rd generation on this dairy farm in Manitowoc County, Mark Rahmlow and his wife, Judy, say it’s fun to work together with your family. From picking stones to milking cows, their kids; Jena (missing from the photo), Jarrod, Trent, Kyra, and Kaden, are all out there helping them.

Mark grew up on the farm and said that he just never thought of doing anything else. His dad was sick when he was young, so Mark and his siblings were very involved with the daily operations at an early age. In 2016, the Rahmlows celebrated the 100-year anniversary of the farm. “My dad and grandparents farmed here,” Mark said. “I am proud to keep up what they started. In fact, the same barn is still being used today.” That is not to say that there haven’t been additions on the original farmland. Mark is often involved with construction projects around the farm.

Farming is really just the way of life for the Rahmlow family and they are proud to a part of that community. Helping to feed the world, working with your family, variety in daily tasks, watching the animals and crops grow… Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? “The generosity we’ve experienced from those we work with in the ag community and our great neighbors is very appreciated,” Judy said. They were faced with a very serious situation when their straw started on fire. “We almost had a barn fire, but all the neighbors were over helping and we managed to get it controlled,” Mark said. “We are so grateful for them.”

Promoting the involvement, technical advances and education of the future generations in agriculture is important for the future of farming. The involvement of Mark and Judy’s kids in the daily operations is a wonderful example. Additionally, the two youngest children in the family are currently attending Mishicot High School and are involved in the FFA program.

Thank you to the Rahmlow family for sharing your story for this week’s Farmer Friday. Congratulations on your Century Farm designation. We extend our best wishes for continued success for your family and Clay Valley Dairy Farm!
