East-Central Cooperative Association

 

East-Central Cooperative is the combination of a merger in 1988 of Cleveland Cooperative and Tri-County Co-op Assn

Cleveland Cooperative - 1948

 

Cleveland Cooperative
  • 1918  July 20, Cleveland Local organized

  • 1919  January 9, voted to incorporate into cooperative

  • 1920  April, first rail-car of feed ordered from Smith Milling in Milwaukee

  • 1920  June, first 2 rail-cars of coal ordered

  • 1921  Cleveland Local, Haven Local and Carnation Local organized into a Cooperative Livestock Shipping Association

  • 1924  Warehouse manager hired and mill warehouse kept open every day during winter months

  • 1930  Elevator changed in mill

  • 1933  Petroleum tanks erected

  • 1935  Merged with Midland

  • 1935  Portable feed grinder purchased and moved into mill

  • 1935  Truck purchased for delivery service

  • 1946  Voted to build new mill, purchase equipment and build more bulk storage

  • 1948  Townships set up with directors from each township

  • 1956  John Deere Company joins co-op - machinery building built

  • 1958  Larger elevators and mixers purchased for bulk feed

  • 1965  Storage for dry and liquid fertilizers built

  • 1970's More bulk delivery in petroleum, feed and fertilizer.  Professional feed and crop advisors hired.  More and more product lines including animal health.

  • 1982  Merged with Land-O-Lakes

  • 1988  Merged with Tri-County Co-op

Tri-County Cooperative
  • 1914  Kiel Mercantile Association organized

  • 1942  Meeting held to organize into a cooperative

  • 1947  Gas station and bulk plant purchased

  • 1947  Co-op leased the Schroeder Grocery Store until 1953

  • 1955  Voted to join Midland 

  • 1963  Hired feed salesman

  • 1967  Purchased fertilizer plant

  • 1967  Purchased 2 warehouses from Freis Von Kiel that became feed mill

  • 1969  Added addition to fertilizer plant

  • 1970  Added corn dryer and 50,000 bushel grain bin

  • 1971  Purchased 67,000 bushel grain bin

  • 1973  Built hardware store, office, station building

  • 1978  Gierke building purchased (across from hardware store)

  • 1988  Merged with Cleveland Co-op

  • 1992  John Deere business closed

  • 1995  Cleveland fertilizer plant closed

  • 1995  First 200,000 bushel grain bin built

  • 1996  Kiel feed mill torn down

  • 1999  Second 200,000 bushel grain bin built

  • 1999  Formed Premier Feeds with Reedsville, Valders, Chilton Co-ops

  • 2000  Closed Cleveland office

  • 2000  April 1, merged with Reedsville Cooperative Association to form Country Horizons Cooperative
